Comm and catch us if you can, say league leaders
THURSO Comm took a giant step towards a first championship in the Caithness Amateur Sevens Football League with a comprehensive 4-1 victory over Pentland's youngsters as their nearest rivals, Young Guns and Castletown, both lost.
Jocky Begg and Willie Steven grabbed a goal apiece and Kevin Morris got a double for the leaders, with Allan Henderson scoring a consolation goal for Pentland.
Relegation-threatened Lybster put Castletown's bid for a third consecutive title firmly on hold. Danny Gunn and Jimmy Budge were the marksmen for Lybster, who ran out 2-1 winners in a tight match.
Strokes dropped to the bottom of the table after a fighting performance against Naver.
With only seven fit players, including a 13year-old trialist, Strokes were always going to be up against it. They fought for every ball and were level at 3-3 but in the end the legs gave up and Naver ran out 6-3 winners.
Keith Foubister and Derek Manson each got a brace for Naver, with Robbie McIntosh and Stuart Munro getting the other two. A James Murray double and one by Des MacLeod proved not enough for Strokes.
Swifts continued where they left off the previous week with a win over one of the top three teams, this time Young Guns. They must be cursing their early-season form as they are now showing what they are capable of.
A brave header by James Miller and a screamer from Danny Riddell ensured all three points for Swifts, although Guns did get a goal back through Eddie McGrory.
Ormlie Taxis first division results: Comm 4, Pentland 1; Strokes 3, Naver 6; Lybster 2, Castletown 1; Swifts 2, Young Guns 1.
Monday night's fixtures fell victim to the elements and will now take place on Monday, January 31.
