Countdown to new season for seven-a-side teams - from JOG Journal website Published: 16 August, 2006 CAITHNESS Amateur Sevens Football League’s 2006/07 season kicks off next month, with 22 teams fighting it out for the two main trophies. There has been concern recently about the neglected state of the playing surface at the Naver synthetic pitch in Thurso. However, chairman Willie Cannop told the league’s AGM on Friday that local MP John Thurso has been involved in seeking a solution and it is hoped that the park will be ready for the new season beginning on Monday, September 11. Office-bearers elected at the AGM in the Royal Hotel, Thurso, were: chairman – Willie Cannop; vice-chairman – George McKenzie; secretary – Stewart Cumming; treasurer – Alyn Gunn; division one representative – Andrew Richardson; division two representative – Graham Lowe. Retiring vice-chairman Ian Nicol was elected honorary president for life due to his past efforts. League fees were again held at £200 per team plus £15 for SAFA affiliation. This is due to the sponsorship the committee brought in last season. Meanwhile, a sponsor is being sought for the second division following Ormlie Taxis’ decision to pull out. Anyone interested should contact any committee member. For more info see the 7's website - www.caithness7s.co.uk/
