Ross County v Wick Academy
A thoroughly professional first half display was enough to see Scott Leitchs side progress into the last four of the North of Scotland Cup despite Wick putting up a fight in the second half.
Ross County took an eleventh minute lead when a long ball played into the Wick penalty area saw Martin Scott outmuscle Stuart Ross and turn twice before firing a shot across the goalkeeper and into the inside of the left hand post.
The home side were well on top and they turned that into a two goal lead in the 37th minute when Neil Hooks cross was headed onto the crossbar by David Winters and Jason Crooks was on hand to turn it into the net.
Three minutes later Martin Scotts throughball appeared to be dealt with by Gary Manson but as he dallied Jason Crooks stepped in to fire the ball home from 16 yards to seemingly put the game out of sight.
However Wick breathed some hope into their band of travelling supporters with a goal just a minute into the second half. Good work by Gary Weir saw him lay it back for Gary Manson and his left foot curling cross found Craig Shearer unmarked and from six yards out he headed it down into inside of the left hand post.
The Scorries displayed more attacking intent in the first five minutes of the second half than in the entire first period. A near interchange between Gary Farquhar and Martin Gunn released Gary Weir who turned Keddie before firing in a 25 yard effort that Ridgers dived full length to turn around the post.
