Wick goals by Jamie Mackenzie and Nigel MacKenzie
report from http://www.highlandleague.net:-
The Mack brothers whack the Broch 22-Oct-2005
Two goals in the final few minutes saw Wick Academy shock table toppers Fraserburgh, recording their first home league victory of the season in the process.
The first effort of the game saw Michael Stephen turn Gary Farquhar before rifling an effort over the bar from the edge of the box, six minutes in. This seemed to implant an idea in Farquhar's mind and a minute later a 30 yard drive by the former St Johnstone man which flew inches over Billy Gordon's cross bar.
A Nigel Mackenzie cross from the left was narrowly missed by David Cowie who was under pressure from the Broch defence halfway through the half. It was a half in which Wick dominated possession, belying the league table to show up well against the table toppers, however chances were at a premium and there were no goals to show for their efforts.
Wick opened the second half on the offensive and Mark Nichol brought out a fine save from Billy Gordon a minute after the break from just inside the box after Nigel Mackenzie played the ball through.
At the other end Michael Stephen went within inches of opening the scoring with a dipping left footed free kick that skimmed just over the cross bar.
Having seen a substitution result in a goal in midweek Charlie Duncan clearly has the midas touch at the moment and his decision to take on Mark Cowie for James Geddes paid almost instant dividends.
The diminutive midfielder was felled in the box by Graeme Reid. Gavin Wemyss stepped up to fire the ball home from the penalty spot, sending the keeper the wrong way from 12 yards.
Wick got the goal they had deserved on the balance of play in the 82nd minute. Martin Macgregor played a long ball down the right wing to Murray Coghill and the young sub's cross found his fellow sub Jamie Mackenzie who controlled it before striking it over Billy Gordon from 16 yards out.
Anything one brother could do the other could emulate and with just four minutes remaining. Gary Manson cut the defence open with a throughball that saw Nigel Mackenzie just stay onside long enough to run through and score, slotting it past Billy Gordon to record the shock result of the day.
