Can Cans go nap - 05-Mar-2005
Steve Paterson had finally got his first three points as Forres manager at Fort and was looking to continue his winning streak at in front of his home fans.
The home side started briskly with Scott Moore having a vicious diagonal volley palmed wide by the visiting keeper, Don McMillan. However the home fans only had one minute longer to wait before the Chocolate and Gold got off the mark. A short corner was played back to Gary Black and his floated cross was powerfully headed home at the back stick by Steve McLean.
The first 15 minutes had been pretty much all Forres but Andrew McLeod found himself facing the goal with no Forres players in front of him and only 6 yards out. However his effort was somewhat scuffed and Martin Rae smothered the ball.
Forres were spurned into action. Charlie Brown played a great ball to Neil Whyte and the keeper blocked his driven effort. However he then seemed to spill the effort, Charles Rowley was on hand to scoop the ball to Scott Matheson who fired the ball into the unguarded net.
Forres had another golden chance before the first 20 minutes were up. Steve Mclean played a great through ball over the top and Charles Rowley was on it first. Don McMillan was out fast to block the veterans effort with his legs.
The half hour was almost up when Forres got their third. Their was a stramasch in the visiting sides box before the ball went over the line with various players in with a shout of claiming it but it looked to most like Rowleys strike was over the line prior to Macleans final touch.
As the half drew to a close another great Gary Black ball into the box caused havoc and Neil Whyte was on hand to rifle the ball into the Wick net.
Forres began the second half as lively as they started the first. Charles Rowley fired narrowly wide within the first 6 minutes. Within the first 15 Scott Matheson spurned an opportunity to round the keeper. And within the 20th minute the keeper had made a great one handed save from Charlie Brown.
Forres had one last note worthy effort before finally getting the nap hand. Gary Black blasted a great effort over the bar from around 25 yards out. As aforementioned it was Forres who got the next goal. The ever busy Scott Moore volleyed emphatically into the net following a great cross from the far side by Charlie Brown.
Wick almost got a consolation when the substitute Reid fired one off the post and much to the dismay of the traveling support that ball was cleared away by the Cans defenders.
