Gunn undecided on Wick future - from John O'Groat Journal website - www.johnogroat-journal.co.uk
FREE agent Martin Gunn has declared that he won't re-sign for Wick Academy until the future of the club is clear.
The midfielder, who has spent a decade playing for the club in the Highland League, latterly as captain, confirmed this week he is now out of contract.
However, he does not intend to commit himself until the uncertainty surrounding the running of the club both on and off the park is resolved.
The midfielder, who has been chosen for the Scotland squad which will fly to Ireland for the four nations semi-professional tournament next week, is not expected to be short of offers should he decide to leave the Harmsworth Park.
He is understood to be awaiting the outcome of Academy's AGM in seven days' time before making up his mind.
Speaking to the John O'Groat Journal this week, Gunn said: "As it stands at the moment, I am out of contract and a free agent.
"There has been some dialogue with the club over the last week or so but so far nothing has been concluded."
He added: "I wouldn't like to comment [on the future] - I want to see how things are going to progress."
It is believed Gunn is one of six Academy players now out of contract and free to sign for another club. The others are understood to be Alex Lamb, David Cowie, Colin Davidson, Alan Sinclair and Gary Weir.
Earlier this month, Academy boss Alistair Budge pleaded with the club to end the uncertainty over his players' contracts after unwittingly fielding an ineligible player in a cup tie.
Players, coaches, supporters, sponsors and committee members have all voiced concerns over the way their club is being run. Some of them have called for a new chairman to be elected to replace Jacky Gunn at the AGM in the Assembly Rooms next Friday, starting at 7.30pm.
.Hamilton's New Douglas Park is to be the venue this Saturday for the final of the SFL Under-17 League Cup between Ross County and Airdrie United.
The Dingwall club's under-17s have a strong Far North connection - they are coached by Peter Budge, from Wick, and have four Caithness players.
As reported in Wednesday's Courier, the Thurso trio of Scott Begg, Scott Mackay Steven and David Allan were all involved in last Sunday's 1-1 draw with Elgin City at Jubilee Park. That result was enough to clinch County's place in the final, which has a 5pm kick-off.
A fourth Caithness lad, Stevie Cunningham from Lybster, is also part of County's U17 set-up.
