Buckie win a cracking cup tie 23-Sep-2006
Buckie Thistle sealed their place in the Tennents Scottish Cup with a dramatic comeback win that saw the came turned on its head to the delight of the fine home support.
Gary Manson had an early opportunity for the visitors but failed to shoot when well placed while at the other end Wick keeper James Moore produced a fine stop to keep out an Andy Low shot form the edge of the box.
The opener came for Buckie with eleven minutes on the clock when Paul Lambertons throughball was flicked on by the head of Steve Bruce for Donnie Munro to smash a 16 yard grounder beyond the helpless More.
Two minutes later Gary Weir had Wick level when he pounced on a loose ball in the Buckie box to net from ten yards. The Jags raced to the other end and a Bruce header was superbly kept out by the visiting keeper.
Richie Davidson then cleared a Craig Shearer header off the line and Weir passed up a chance that he looked certain to take advantage of as the chances continued to come thick and fast at either end.
Neil Davidsons angled header brought out a superb header saved by the keeper then Stephen Bruces netbound header was cleared eventually thanks to the combination of Andy Macleod and the post.
Thirteen mintues into the second half Wick forged ahead thanks ot a piece of opportunist finishing form Richard MacAdie. The sbu raced onto a long ball out of defence to fire a fourteen yard effort over the advancing Main.
Donnie Munro had a great chance to grab his second of the afternoon but he shot over. The Jags fans were cheering though with fifteen mintues left when another sub made his mark on this game.
Lewis Mackinnons shot was going wide but it deflected of Neil Trail and that wrong footed James More allowing the ball to trickle into the opposite corner of the net. Ninety seconds later Buckie got the winner when Andy Low curled the ball over the wall and into the top corner from a 25 yard free kick.
It had been a superb game, end to end stuff with Wick unlucky to go out but the Jags delighted to march on into the Scottish Cup!
