Deadlock unbroken 16-Sep-2006
Wick Academy and Buckie Thistle will have to do it all over again after neither side were able to break the deadlock in a tense encounter at Harmsworth Park.
The first chance came in seven minutes when Wicks Richard Macadie put the defence under pressure and Neil Trialls cross was eventually headed past Kevin Mains right hand post although it was not far from beign an own goal.
At the other end Steven Bruce fired a 20 yarder inches past James Mores right hand post then John Coutts blasted a free kick high over the bar when well placed to test the young keeper.
Ten minutes before the break Richard Macadie drove forward and fired a shot but Main diving at full length managed to stop it. The Buckie defence cleared the danger as the half continued to produce just the odd glimpse of goal.
The last action of the first half came when Stephen Bruce beat Stuart Ross to run through on goal but keeper James More was out to meet him and smother the ball.
In 64 minutes Richard MacAdies neat one two with Craig Shearer ended in a smashing shot from Shearer which flew narrowly over bar to the relief of his namesake on the Buckie bench.
A David Cowie cross from the right saw Richard MacAdies downward header brilliantly saved by Kevin Main low to his right then at the other end Andy Matheson and Donnie Munro brought out fine saves form James More in the space of a minute. Matty struck a left footed effort while Munro tried with his right but both were touched away from goal by the keeper
Buckie went in hunt of the win and Stephen Bruce will have been disappointed at blasting over after Donnie Munro played him in then, from a Shewan delivery Lewis Mackinnon had a ten yard header which James More touched away for a corner.
With just two minutes left on the clock Andy Low very nearly won the game but his well struck shot hit the underside of the crossbar and came down in play for the Wick defence to clear.
With the deadlock intact it will be the Scorries turn to take to the road in search of a dream ticket into the Scottish Cup draw.
