Wick Academy 2 V Lossiemoth 2 - Qualifying Cup 1st Round
Groundhog Day 28-Aug-2004
Lossiemouth came back from two goals down to secure a replay ensuring the battle between the two sides becomes a trilogy.
Wick were first to mount an attack and should of gone ahead in the 2nd minute thanks to a great cross from Gary Manson from which David Cowie rose highest to head off the underside of the bar and into the waiting arms of Steve Dunn.
Lossie's best chance of the half came in the 5th minute when Shaun Noble's cross was headed over by Martin McMullen from 12-yards out, when he looked set to score. Wick were to punish the visitors for that miss when they took the lead in the 15th minute when David Cowie took full advantage of a shot spilled by Stevie Dunn in the Lossie Goal after a 35-yard shot by Gavin Henderson.
Wick quickly doubled their advantage in the 18th minute thanks to a long ball from Alan Sinclair found Nigel McKenzie in space who kept his composure to lob the oncoming Stevie Dunn from 18 yards.
The Scorries went in 2-0 up at half time and deservedly so. Wick had the majority the play in the half and put away the two main chances that came their way thanks to Cowie and McKenzie.
They should have wrapped up the game just after half time, when a through ball from Gary Manson left Craig Shearer through on goal only to lob the ball over Stevie Dunn and past the post.
Then Lossie missed a glorious chance to open their account when another Shaun Noble corner was met by Martin McMullen who headed wide from eight yards out.
In the 55th minute Lossie put together another goal scoring opportunity. Good work on the wing by David Hendry, who put a teasing ball into the area for the on-rushing Darren Shalliker sliding in to knock the ball just past the post.
Lossie pulled a goal back with 25 minutes remaining thanks to a great individual goal by Shaun Scott, who took on the Wick defence single-handedly to drive a shot into the bottom left hand corner.
With quarter of an hour to go, Gary Manson played a through ball which was misjudged by Stephenson allowing Gavin Henderson a golden opportunity to kill off Lossie only for him to agonisingly put the ball past the post.
Lossie finally got the equaliser with ten minutes from time, thanks to a superb free kick from which Shalliker curled around the wall from 23-yards out and into the roof of the net.
Neither side could find a winner and these two teams will now meet for the third time in three weeks back at Grant Park next weekend.
