Huntly 2 v Wick Academy 1 at Christie Park, Huntly
Wick goal from Andrew MacLeod !!!
report from highlandleague.net :-
Huntly claim the points 05-Feb-2005
As Huntly were looking to close the gap on league-leaders Fraserburgh, bottom side Wick were the opposition hoping to inflict only Huntly's second defeat of the season and throw the title race wide open once more.
After just six minutes, however, Huntly found themselves in front, with Martin Stewart giving them the lead with the simplest of tasks. Ross Campbell's long ball into attack fell in behind a square Wick back three and Martin Stewart gathered the ball to slot past Don MacMillan from just inside the area.
Huntly made it two nil just after the half hour, when Gary McGowan scored in bizarre fashion. It was McGowan's initial effort that stung the hands of Don MacMillan forcing a corner. McGowan then took the corner, which proceeded to glide over the heads of the Wick defence and nestle in the back of the net past a bewildered MacMillan.
It seemed that Huntly were happy with their lead and while Wick Academy battled away it was a half that never looked like bearing fruit. Huntly went close on numerous occasions but the visitors, still trying to play football, also began to create the odd opening and in the end they took one in stoppage time.
Martin Gunn struck a vicious effort towards goal form outside the area and although Richard Bowman got down to make the save he could only parry it into the path of Andrew Macleod who pounced to net from close range.
