Appeal keeps Pentland cup hopes alive
Published: 20 June, 2007
PENTLAND United have won their bid to be reinstated in the Macleod IFA Highland Amateur Cup despite losing their second-round tie.
The five-times champions are back in the competition after having had their appeal about the eligibility of an opponent upheld.
Tournament organisers found that Mid Lairgs United player Gary Cornish should not have played as his registration with Highland League side Brora Rangers was not cancelled before the set deadline.
That means United's 1-0 defeat in Ardersier has been annulled and they take their place in Saturday's third-round line-up.
They face a hike to Ullapool for a morning kick-off against Stornoway Athletic.
Revised draw: Contin v Culbokie; Dingwall Thistle v Dunvegan; Dounby Athletic v Gairloch Aultbea United; John O'Groats v Kyleakin; Lochs v Wick Thistle (in Ullapool); Stornoway Athletic v Pentland United (in Ullapool); Thurso Swifts v Avoch; Wick Rovers v Point (in Fortrose).
Quarter-final draw (to be played on Saturday, July 14): John O'Groats or Kyleakin v Contin or Culbokie; Lochs or Wick Thistle v Dounby Athletic or Gairloch Aultbea United; Stornoway Athletic or Pentland United v Swifts or Avoch; Wick Rovers or Point v Dingwall Thistle or Dunvegan.
