Wick lose to late late show 29-Jan-2005 - report from www.highlandleague.net by Alan Farquhar
A 94th minute goal from Andy Low gave the Inverurie Locos a dramatic win and three vital points in the title race, seeing off a spirited Wick Academy side at Harmsworth Park.
The first chance of the game saw Neil Maclean win a corner which was swung into the box causing mayhem. There were at least two Locos efforts at goal in the ensuing melee that lasted until Paul McCallum hoofed it clear. A short Tommy Wilson free kick was fired inches over the bar by Scott Buchan, his ferocious effort a warning of what he was set to unleash later in the game.
The visitors were flowing and in the tenth minute an intricate one touch move between Neil Maclean, Stuart McKay and Kenny Coull released the latter but he dragged his shot wide of the far post with Don MacMillan covering the angles well.
The lively Neil Maclean played the ball into Stuart McKay, in the 25th minute, and he flicked the ball past his man before firing a great shot at goal which was stopped by and equally impressive MacMillan save.
Wick's first real effort in the game saw Gary Manson's ball over the top release Martin Gunn, his first time shot was turned round the post by Marc Coull sparking a spell of back to back corners that failed to produce a goal.
The Scorries then went on to take the lead five minutes later. A free kick was flighted into the box by Gary Manson and Graeme Reid rose above his marker, ten yards out, and headed it in off the post even though Martin Gunn tried to steal it on the goal line.
On the stroke of half time Roddy Mess brought out another fine save from Don MacMillan that ensured the Scorries went in ahead at the break.
The Locos fightback began in the 57th minute when Kenny Coull's cross from the right was headed out as far as Tommy Wilson and he laid it into the path of Scott Buchan who bulleted and unstoppable piledriver into the roof of the net from thirty yards.
Changes were made and the key one was, once more, the introduction of Andy Low who stole the three points for John Gardiner's side deep into injury time.
With 94 minutes on the clock a corner was swung into the area and charging in at the back post was Low who fired it home from close range to the delight of his team mates and the travelling fans, and the despair of the home side who were to gain no reward for their sterling efforts.
