Farquhar does the trick for United
PENTLAND United have ensured Caithness will have at least one representative in the last eight of the MacLeod IFA Highland Amateur Cup.
The Dunnet side came through 3-1 in their fourth-round clash with Shetland outfit Whalsay on Saturday.
They will be joined by Acks if they can overcome Dingwall Thistle in the only unresolved tie.
Colin Chessor's men were fully stretched at the Dammies to emerge with a 1-1 draw against more-than-useful Ross-shire opponents. The Acks supporters feared the worst in a dreadful first half in which the Jags could easily have established an unassailable lead.
Within 15 minutes, Acks looked certain to go behind only for a Thistle player to crack the ball off the crossbar when presented with an open net.
With midfielder Connor Campbell calling the shots, Thistle passed up two further opportunities either side of taking the lead.
The home side got their act together after the break and a good spell of pressure preceded the equaliser on 62 minutes.
Alan Murray's header did not seem the most threatening but Thistle keeper Neil Mackay was slow to react and the ball crept into the net.
Acks keeper Marc Swanson saw little real action after the interval and, while his side had the whip hand, chances were at a premium.
Chessor later acknowledged that his side "got out of jail" in the first half and is happy to be given a second crack at ousting Thistle.
The winners of the replay on July 9 will play last year's champions, Back, who were impressive 6-1 winners over Golspie Stafford at neutral Ullapool.
A Tony Farquhar hat-trick was the highlight in Pentland United's eclipse of the Shetlanders.
Despite their gruelling travelling schedule, the visitors started brightly and displayed a steely resilience at the back and a physical presence in midfield.
Ross Sutherland, back from injury, showed up well in the centre of midfield for United.
The home side took the lead on the halfhour mark when Farquhar met a long throw-in from Brian Gray with a backheader which went in off a post.
The second came five minutes after the turnaround when Gavin Bremner's free kick was met by Farquhar, whose looping header evaded the Whalsay keeper who was stranded in no-man's-land.
The islanders got back into the contest with a scrambled, close-range finish from Ian Simpson. But United struck again within 10 minutes. Farquhar grabbed his third when he swept the ball home after Gray's shot had come back off a post.
The Canisbay outfit now entertain Avoch, who defeated the sole surviving Inverness representatives, Harlequin Bar, 2-0.
Avoch's Brian Davidson was sent off in between a penalty from Robbie MacDougall and a cracking goal by Gary Reid.
Back lead a strong Western Isles threesome into the last eight. South End, from South Uist, cruised to a 6-1 win over Ardersier, while Lochs, from south Lewis, defeated Kirkwall Accies 4-1.
Kirkwall Rovers were the fourth island side to win through following their 3-0 victory at Embo.
Culbokie made it 15 goals in their last three ties following their decisive 5-0 win at home to Stornoway Athletic.
Results: Acks 1, Dingwall Thistle 1; Avoch 2, Harlequin Bar 0; Back 6, Golspie Stafford 1; Culbokie 5, Stornoway Athletic 0; Embo 0, Kirkwall Rovers 3; Kirkwall Accies 1, Lochs 4; Pentland United 3, Whalsay 1; South End 6, Ardersier 1.
