Wick Academy ensured they will finish no worse than eleventh although they now have to score seven in their last match of the season if they are to sneak above Rothes following a 1-1 draw with Fraserburgh at Harmsworth Park.
The first opportunity of the match fell to Wick in the 9th minute when Davie Cowies cross into box was stepped over by Gary Manson leaving Martin Gunn running through into the box. He shoot goalwards only to be saved by the charging Fraserburgh keeper, Billy Gordon.
Wick had another chance within 6 minutes. Gary Farquhars curling free kick from 25 yards out was heading inside Gordons left hand stanchion but the veteran Broch keeper pulled off a brilliant one handed save to knock the ball away for a corner.
Wick went ahead in 19 minutes through Martin Gunn. Richard MacAdies through ball beyond the Broch defence found Gunn, who beat the offside trap, to run through on goal and coolly fire right footed low inside Gordons right hand post.
Fraserburghs first real chance came in 27 minutes. Steven Mains low, left foot free kick curled around wall but flew inches by James Mores right hand post as the Broch finally showed some urgency
The first chance of the second half brought an equaliser for Fraserburgh when Neil Main flighted a free kick, in 52 minutes, to the back post to find Willie West unmarked to head home from ten yards.
In 67 minutes Brochs Willie West had an opportunity to double his goal tally but his 20 yard drive was well saved by James More low down to his left. After 20 minutes with no clear cut chances, Gary Weir drove at the Fraserburgh defence before setting up David Cowie, out on the right, but his attempted lob from 16 yards sailed well by Gordons right hand post as the game wound down towards the final whistle.
