The Scorries did the double over Rothes with a thumping 6-1 win ensuring it was six points from two games in the space of almost as many weeks and giving the players every opportunity of achieving the management teams target of 30 points for the campaign.
Wick had to come from behind in order to win the game having lost the opener in the 18th minute. It was a straight forward 25 yard rocket of a free kick from the midfielder which left James More rooted to the spot. A great set piece strike.
However two goals from hotshot Gary Manson turned the game around before half time. The first was a glancing header from a corner by Richard Macadie. Mansons movement across the face of the goal allowing him to nick in front of the Rothes men to net. His second arrived when Shane Sutherland knocked it to the midfielder and he lobbed the keeper from 14 yards.
The next goal was sure to be crucial and it arrived from another Scorries corner. This time Stewart Ross was on hand to net from all of four inches out as the near post ball paid dividends.
Wicks spirits were lifted and Rothes were down. A throughball by Craig Shearer saw speed merchant Martin Gunn show the Speyside defence a clean pair of heels before dirtying his brogues firing the ball low inside Stevie Dunns right hand post.
The nap hand was completed when an innocuous lob forward from Stewart Ross saw Graeme Bain inexplicably collapse in a heap leaving Richard MacAdie free to run in and apply a similar finish to the Martin Gunns earlier.
There was still time for Gary Manson, who somehow missed out on the sponsors Man of the Match award, to grab a hat trick. Richard Macadie and Martin Gunn did the spadework before picking out Brian McKiddie. The youngster turned his man and drilled in a left foot shot that was magnificently blocked by Stevie Dunn but head boy Gary Manson was first to the spinning parry and he nodded it home.
This fantastic result moves Wick closer to Forres Mechanics and could well help set up a Highland Derby against Brora with the prize of 10th place going to the winner, if not better.
