Last minute penalty keeps Wick 11th 28-Jan-2006
A Doug Coull double looked certain to have given Lossiemouth all three points, and eleventh place in the table until a last minute penalty saw Wick level to stay a few goals ahead of the Coasters in the league table.
Craig Morrison was the first to go close when, with a 20 yard free kick in the seventh minute, which skimmed just past the post although it looked as though Don MacMillan had it covered.
It was the visitors who took the lead in the twelfth minute through winter window signing Doug Coull. Martin McMullen was the architect as he turned his man and drove into the penalty area before putting the ball across for Doug Coull who slotted home from a tight angle.
Five minute later Wick striker Mark Nichol's 12 yard snapshot was turned around the post by Lossie keeper Stevie Dunn as Wick looked to level. The next chance saw Craig Shearer rise to meet a Gary Farquhar free kick however his header flew over the bar from five yards out.
Shaun Sinclair's cross from the right found Martin Gunn in space in the penalty area but from twelve yards his header flew straight into the keepers hands as the Scorries continued to push. Another Gary Farquhar free kick lead to another chance, with Nigel Mackenzie collecting the square ball, taking a touch then firing just past Stevie Dunn's post.
On the half hour mark the pacy Craig Morrison skipped past Andrew Macleod and from 14 yards out his shot finished just outside Don MacMillan's left hand post. Morrison was a thorn in the home defence's side and his curled 18 yard effort was excellently pushed past the post by the veteran goalie just minutes later.
Eight minutes before the break Wick were level. Veteran midfielder Martin Gunn collected the ball just inside the Lossie half but he ran forward unchallenged before unleashing a 25 yards shot that beat Stevie Dunn low to his left.
Five minutes after half time Doug Coull played in Martin McMullen but the marauding midfielder's left foot effort from 16 yards out flew wide of the target. Shortly after the hour mark Doug Coull very nearly netted his second with a cross that turned into a shot and struck the right hand post before being cleared to safety.
In the 76th minute Gary Farquhar brought out a fine save from Stevie Dunn who held on to his 16 yard effort to prevent any follow up.
Two minutes later the visitors went back in front. Steve Ellis' free kick from the right found Doug Coull who rose to head the ball into the top right hand corner to the delight of the small band of travelling fans
Wick snatched a point in the final minute to maintain their position in the league table when Tony Ross, on trial from Forres Thistle, was struck on the arm by a Scorries strike and a penalty was given. Gary Farquhar stepped up to calmly slot home from 12 yards.
