Wick goals by Nigel MacKenzie, Andy MacLeod and Mark Nicholl
Goals aplenty at Grant Park 19-Nov-2005
Basement boys? Forgetaboutit; this game was a roller coaster ride that saw the lead swing back and fore between the sides before they ended up settling for a share of the spoils after six goals, two yellow cards and a red.
Wick have traditionally done well at Grant Park over the years and it took them only 8 minutes to move ahead of the Coasters this afternoon. Mark Nichol, in for the injured Jamie Mackenzie, made his mark by sending Nigel Mackenzie through on goal and the www.highlandleague.net Player of the Month for October duly slipped it past Stevie Dunn and into the bottom right hand corner of the net from 8 yards out.
Lossie responded and were level just two minutes later. Striker Craig Morrison played the ball over the top for the on rushing Martin McMullen who controlled the ball on his chest before lobbing it over Don MacMillan from ten yards out.
The home team's tails were up and they moved in front in the 18th minute. Steve Ellis picked up the ball on the left and crossed to the back post where Graeme Kennedy, who had cleverly peeled off his marker, was on hand to head home from just 6 yards out.
Wick very nearly levelled in the 32 minute when a goalmouth scramble culminated in David Hendry hacking Mark Nichol's effort off the Lossie goal line to the relief of the home support.
Two minutes before the break the Shaker Crew would have been thanking their lucky stars when former St Johnstone midfielder Gary Farquhar crashed a 30 yard effort off Stevie Dunn's crossbar. The ball rebounded straight to a defender and the danger passed leaving Lossie to go in 2-1 up at half time.
Twelve minutes into the second half Wick got the equaliser they had been searching for. A long free kick into the box from Shaun Sinclair went all the way through to Andrew Macleod and he was left with a simple close range finish.
Once again the Lossie reaction was immediate and Martin McMullen's long ball to Craig Morrison saw a quick chest-volley move from the striker but his effort flew just wide of the target.
However it was Wick who were to grab the fifth goal, moving back into the lead. A quickly taken free kick deep in his own half by Gary Farquhar caught the home defence on the hop and allowed Mark Nichol to race clear before slotting the ball past Stevie Dunn to the delight of the Scorries.
Craig Morrison went close with a 20 yard free kick that flew just over Don MacMillan's bar but the Lossie leveller was soon to follow. A long ball from Stevie Dunn ran all the way through for supersub Joe Lasley and the local airman fired it into the top right hand corner of the net on the half volley from six yards.
In the dying minutes Scotland Semi Professional Internationalist Martin Gunn uncharacteristically saw red, to the surprise of most, with the assumption being that the Wicker had spoken out of turn compounding a yellow card picked up in the first half.
