Wick goals by Nigel MacKenzie and Graeme Reid
report from http://www.highlandleague.net:-
Wick double up to move up 29-Oct-2005
Wick Academy made it back to back wins to lift themselves up to eleventh in the Scot Ads Highland League with a two goals in the first half allowing the Scorries to take all three points back up the road.
Rothes had a great chance to open the scoring in the 12th minute when Michael Ewen, once again Rothes' top performer, set up his strike partner Chris Grant but form six yards out he put it straight at Don MacMillan.
Wick scored a classic route one goal with Don MacMillan's was cleverly flicked on by Gary Manson setting Nigel Mackenzie free and he raced on to slot it past Darren Strong, going to the his former team mate's left with the finish. That’s three in three games for Nigel Mackenzie
Rothes appeared to have levelled through joint top scorer Nathan Sharp on the 40th minute but his effort was ruled out for offsides and it was to go from bad to worse for the home team soon after who instead of going level went two down.
The visitors doubled their advantage just a minute before the break when a corner swung to the back post was met by Graeme Reid who netted a rare goal with a fine leaping header.
Both teams continued throughout the second period with Wick having about half a dozen efforts, the majority of which were cleared or flew wide while the closest Rothes came to grabbing a lifeline was an 85th minute effort from Jamie Miller that hit the junction of the post and the crossbar with Don MacMillan beaten.
Nevertheless Wick held on to record a clean sheet and move above the Speysiders in the league table.
