Academy squashed like Scorries on the runway 27-Aug-2005 - report from www.highlandleague.net
The Locos got off to a flying start and they netted in only the 8th minute of the game through the jet-heeled Stuart McKay who put the brakes on Wick's hopes of getting their noses in front.
A high ball lofted into the box was nodded partially clear by Paul McCallum but it fell straight into the path of Stuart McKay who, possibly with the help of a slight deflection rifled it high over Don MacMillan and into the roof of the net.
The home side had been well warned as McKay went close in both the 3rd and 8th minute, firstly flashing a14 yard effort just past Don MacMillan's left hand post then bringing out a fine save from the keeper with a powerful drive from a tight angle.
The Scotland Semi Professional centre forward clearly excels in the jet-set lifestyle as he brought out another fine save from MacMillan with a low shot towards the bottom left hand corner of the net having escaped the clutches of the Wick defence once more.
Wick, who were on the back foot throughout the game, had one opportunity of note in the first half with Craig Shearer releasing David Cowie in the 16th minute but Stuart Gray held Cowie's 18 yard effort.
Craig Ross struck the post on the half hour mark when he took advantage of a mix up between Nigel Mackenzie and Gary Manson to drive into the box before rattling the woodwork from 12 yards.
In all honesty the home side were lucky to be only one goal behind at the break but their luck ran out soon after it! With only a minute gone in the second period the Locos netted their second and it was that man Stuart McKay once more. Scott Buchan's free kick picked out McKay who rose to head the ball back across Don MacMillan and into the corner of the net from 12 yards.
The floodgates then opened. In 68 minutes Richie Singer picked up a loose ball from Gary Manson and charged down the line before centring the ball for Kenny Coull who sided footed home.
Two minutes later it was 4-0. Tommy Wilson played in Stuart McKay and on this form there was only going to be one outcome; one touch and a composed but powerful finish.
The hat-trick hero turned from scorer to setter upper, sliding the ball to Neil McLean who skipped past his marker before firing it across Don MacMillan and into the back of the net as the Locos went nap.
Just when it seemed things couldn't get worse Paul McCallum gave the cabin crew even more to sing about by getting himself stupidly sent off for having a swing at Craig Ross.
Recent signing Danny Milne then notched his first goal for the Inverurie side in style, collecting a Craig Ross ball and turning his man before curling the ball into the corner of the net to make it 6-0.
There was a late late consolation strike of some quality by Martin Gunn, firing home from 25 yards to ensure all three semi pro internationalist names ended up on the scoresheet as the visiting supporters started fishing in their pockets to make sure they hadn't dropped their passport.
