Wick goalscorer - Craig Shearer (2)

Vale slide past the Scorries 19-Feb-2005
The snow and the wind only seemed to add something special to this game as the two teams served up a five goal thriller that, in the end, went with the form book.
There was snow in the air as the game kicked off and it was Wick that looked the more used to the conditions in the opening exchanges. However they were to find themselves behind after 17 minutes and once again it was that man Mike McKenzie.
With the strong wind behind him the former Lossie striker fired the ball through the wall and beyond Don MacMillan, who was keeping the Duff House end goal to set the home side on their way.
Ten minutes later the Banffers went two up. A neat move lead to Bryan Dlugonski crossing the ball to Steve Dolan. The veteran fired goalwards only to be denied by Don MacMillan who made the save only to see Paul Urquhart follow up to claim the simplest of goals.
Paul Urquhart attempted to make full use of the wind to add a second to his tally with a thirty yard effort that Don MacMillan did well to keep out.
At the other end a deep Andrew Macleod free kick found Craig Shearer, who rose well to head goalwards but Ross Bremner got down low to make the save.
Nevertheless Craig Shearer didn't have long to wait to be rewarded for his efforts as he pulled Wick back into the game 2 minutes after the turn around. Martin MacGregor's low cross found Craig Shearer who turned Mark Slater before blasting the ball low beyond Ross Bremner form 12 yards out.
Vale immediately restored their two goal advantage when Paul Urquhart turned two defenders before laying the ball off for Kenny Gilbert and the assistant manager drilled the ball into the keepers right hand corner from 25 yards, marking his first goal for the Vale first team.
A pass back to Ross Bremner saw the former Huntly man miss kick the ball straight to Craig Shearer who gleefully headed into the gaping net in the 75th minute. The last fifteen minutes were a little nervy for the home support but the Vale made sure of the three points, keeping their title dream alive.
