Wick is next stop for free-scoring Locos
INVERURIE romped to an amazing 13-1 victory over Fort William on Saturday - and the bad news for struggling Wick Academy is that freescoring Locos are heading for Harmsworth Park this weekend.
Fort had no answer to Inverurie's firepower as the Harlaw Park fans watched the home side go in at halftime with a 7-0 lead. There was no letup in the second period as the Lochaber men found themselves on the wrong end of the kind of scoreline they thought had become a thing of the past.
There were hat-tricks for Stuart McKay and Kenny Coull, with Locos' other strikes coming from Andy Low (2), Neil McLean (penalty), Scott Buchan, Tommy Wilson, Innes Simpson (o. g. ) and Andy Walker.
Ryan Haggerty's well-taken goal came as scant consolation for the shell-shocked visitors.
Inverurie's win keeps up the pressure on leaders Fraserburgh, who made a quick-fire start at Dudgeon Park and ended up cruising to a 4-0 victory over third-bottom Brora Rangers.
Mark Cowie put the Broch in front with less than 30 seconds played, and they were three up after 10 minutes following a double from Gavin Wemyss. Brora got their act together after the break but they couldn't stop Ian Murray running through to complete the scoring late on.
Steve Paterson saw his Forres side slump to a 4-1 defeat at Christie Park, where he enjoyed great success with Huntly in the '90s.
Martin Stewart, Ross Campbell (penalty) and Richie Taylor (2) were on target for Huntly, with Michael Morrison replying for the Can-Cans.
A late strike by Donnie Munro gave Buckie Thistle a 2-1 win at Lossiemouth after Stuart McGuigan's opener for the Jags had been cancelled out by Martin McMullan.
Martin Johnston and Nicky Gordon got Cove Rangers' goals in a 2-1 victory at Nairn. Scott Kellacher pulled one back for County.
Wick Academy's basement battle with Rothes was one of two postponements, the other being Keith's scheduled visit to Clachnacuddin.
