Scotads Highland League - 25.9.04
######################
Wick Academy 1 v Huntly 3 at Harmsworth Park, Wick - 15.00 k.o
Wick Academy goal by Paul McCallum
report from Highlandleague.net:-
Scorries sunk by Taylor 25-Sep-2004
Huntly were first to threaten with Levi Stephen's free kick from the left being met by Richie Taylor 12 yards out and his effort was tipped over the bar by Alex Thomson. Mayhem ensued from the resultant corner kick with Gavin Henderson heading against his own bar before the ball was finally cleared to safety.
A minute later Henderson came close to scoring at the other end when his cross come shot caught Richard Bowman by surprise and only just slid past the post.
The 28/1 outsiders took the lead in the 16th minute when Martin Gunn threaded the ball through to Paul McCallum, making only his second start of the season. He fired the ball beyond Richard Bowman from 18 yards.
Levi Stephen tested Alex Thomson with a shot from the edge of the area that the keeper did well to tip round the post for a corner as Huntly looked to get back into the game before the break.
Gary Weir had the chance to make it two nil when he raced clear but Richard Bowman pulled off a fantastic save from Weir's driven effort to keep Huntly within one.
Huntly levelled the game shortly before the break when confusion in the Wick box allowed Richie Taylor to nip in between Graeme Reid and Alex Thomson to touch the ball past the keeper who just failed to scramble back in time to effect a save.
Richie Taylor went on to give Huntly the lead on the hour mark. Russell Guild was the provider with a typical assist that allowed Richie Taylor to turn his marker before placing the ball beyond Alex Thomson from ten yards out.
4 minutes from time Huntly wrapped up the game to take all three points. Levi Stephen saw his 20-yard free kick hit the wall but then had the chance to celebrate as team-mate and substitute Martin Stewart used his left foot to volley the deflected free kick through the bodies and past Alex Thomson who saw it too late.
