Wick Academy 2 v Huntly 4 at Harmsworth Park, Wick
report from highlandleague.net :-
Wick beaten by strong Huntly side 11-Sep-2004
Huntly booked their place in the Scottish Cup once again with a deserved 4-2 win over Wick Academy at Harmsworth Park this afternoon and playing down the slope it took then only 30 seconds to click into gear.
Young Wick keeper Kevin McGee punched a deep Huntly cross out as far as Russell Guild and the goalscoring midfielder duly dispatched it into the back of the net form 16 yards.
Straight from the restart Gary Weir was sent through on goal with the Huntly defence sleeping and fired a shot beyond the advancing Huntly keeper Bowman from 12 yards to make it 1-1 with barely a minute on the clock.
Wick thought they had take the lead on 9 minutes when Martin Gunn took the ball up the left side of the field played the ball through to Nigel Mackenzie just inside the Huntly 18 yard line. Mackenzie advanced on goal and from 12 yards curled the ball beyond the Huntly keeper. However his celebrations were cut short by the linesman's flag.
With 20 minutes on the clock Huntly went in front for the second time. Gary McGowan skipped the challenge of Steven Reid and found himself just inside the box he instantly looked up and fired home past the advancing young Wick Keeper.
It was almost 3-1 six minutes later when Jerry O'Driscoll's netbound effort was deflected away for a corner by Steven Reid but the visitors did find the back of the net seven minutes before the break to open up a two goal lead.
A long ball from deep inside the Huntly have caught out the retreating Wick defence and Jerry O'Driscoll gladly took the opportunity to lob the advancing keeper from the edge of the box
Huntly could have sealed the game nine minutes into the second half when Russell Guild sent a through ball to O. Driscoll whose shot from 12 yards was saved by Wick's McGee however the ball landed back at O'Driscoll's feet but Keeper McGee reacted quickly to smother the ball.
The game raged on with little goalmouth action until Nigel Mackenzie flashed an effort across the bows of Richard Bowman with 10 minute remaining.
This kick started the game and when sub Martin Stewart played a ball in from the left to fellow sub Mark Gray he took a touch before firing in a shot at the Kevin McGee.
The goalie managed to parry the shot away only to see it land at the feet of Richard Strainer who controlled the ball 10 yards out and fired into the empty Wick Goal.
There was a late consolation for Wick when Craig Shearer found Martin Gunn with a pass into the heart of the Huntly defence and the midfielder duly fired it high into the roof of the net for a consolation goal.
